I can accept the changes but I shall never forgive Gmail for doing away with the Google search box that came up on my in tray. That is one change that I did not need and that, I am sure, was not needed by anybody else, except perhaps Google themselves. The big advantage of the Gmail page was that one could go anywhere from it and there was no need to open a new one for anything.
It was efficiency carried to the utmost and that efficiency is now lost. Gmail is the new Hotmail!!!!! This is pathetic, has been since last fall. Google started a disturbing trend of being "evil" a few years back. This is one more example.
Why not give us options. We don't like the new layout, don't force it on us. I hate windows and yahoo email services, now Gmail is looking like its going towards the same.

They're going to eliminate the old gmail version than reveal the new google search engine which will be worse. Then everyone will get mad and abandon google. Google will take a nose dive. Far worse than the other free mail outlets like hotmail or yahoo. I can't believe a company that big refuses to listen to their users.
My rating - 1 yahoo - flexible interface, good spam filter. A big headache to use. I think it was designed by programmers for programmers or the minion of robots they plan to make. Definitely not for every day people. But excellent at spam filtering. They don't have anything right. Can't control spams.
Customer service refuses to acknowledge problems. Their product is fine and doesn't need to be as user friendly as others because godaddy says so. Is there still no way to default to older version? Google really needs to address this issue! Keys sticking when sending gmail is driing me crazy. Does not happen when using word or other applications. Please fix this probem Google!
I couldn't find a way to bookmark the older version URL. I just found the best solution to this problem. Even when you use the newer version of Gmail, you will have similar user experience as older version.
I like older version more.. The google mentality is to play games with words and language. First of all it's call "older version" instead of Classic Version like it should be because they want to FORCE a "fancier" "cuter" user interface rather than provide choice - ie. Please get a CLUE all you software execs, managers and developers. Why doesn't every vote as as block and organize a successful , people etc.

If you have the new version of Gmail , but you don't like it, there are some ways to go back to the old version. Maybe you don't have a fast Internet connection and Gmail suddenly feels slower, maybe there are too many bugs or you love a Gmail-related extension or Greasemonkey script that suddenly doesn't work.
And even if you bookmark the link, some Gmail-related plug-ins will still not work. Because the new version is only available in Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7, another way to revert to the standard Gmail would be to use another browser, like Opera or Safari.
But that's not very convenient or practical. So what's the best solution? You'll lose some features creating Google Calendar events, PowerPoint viewer and some names will be different instead of Trash, you'll see Deleted Items , but these are minor changes.
Gmail's new version will be rolled out to everyone in the coming weeks and will eventually replace the current version, but by the time it reaches everyone, Gmail will probably fix the performance issues and your favorite plug-ins will update their code. A Gmail API would be a much better idea for the future, because every change in Gmail's code can break a plug-in like Gmail Manager or some useful Greasemonkey scripts.
